Worked great sucking in all the gunk but when you shut it off it drops it back into the tank.

Mine sucked in the sand filter in my aquarium and when I released the water into the bucket 🪣 some of my filter sands came out of the vacuum 👀I thought this vacuum was suppose to clean the sands by sucking the dirt but not the sand itself? I’m confused how this vacuum works
