In Febuary the Premier, Doug Ford and Nolan Quinn, the Minister of Colleges and Universities, in Ontario stood at podiums and directly lied to our faces. We are just finding this out and yall are being WAAAAYYY too calm out it. Where is the outrage?!? Where is the same zeel to save OSAP? What happened to @Marit Stiles holding a press conference everyday to call out Doug Ford? And most importantly WHERE ARE THE JOURNALISTS writing articles about how they lied? Doug literally told you the reasons for the changes were because students were taking “baskingweaking classes” and not picking careers that would stimulate the economy when in reality a few private career colleges were faking enrollment and stealing money. He wanted to be patted on the back for the “unprecedented” investment in higher education while they FULLY knew pretty much ALL of it was being directed funnel into just a few schools with the majority of them being owned by PC Party donors. He said the current situation was “Unsustainable” but never bothered to get the auditor general to do an audit to figure out what was going on and investigate this fraud and if THAT was the reason OSAP was “unsustainable” BEFORE making these changes that are just going to saddle Ontario students with more debt. The Ford Government CLEARLY did some level of internal investigation because with the changes you also stopped ALL OSAP grants to private career colleges. Then in May you banned 6 private career colleges from receiving any OSAP funding. And STILL you said nothing. Didn’t it refer it to the auditor general or the OPP. You fully KNEW something was going on but they still carried on business as usual. The Ford Government allowed Ontario students to still apply for schools, still apply for OSAP funding, confirmed what funding they were going to get and lets students make life decisions based on that information just to turn around in October and pull the rug out from under them all. Instead of using your power as the provincial government to pause accreditations or freeze the bank accounts of these fraudulent schools they instead decided to pause funding to the STUDENTS. The funding that includes things like living expenses and childcare and then told students to go get a last minute private bank loan and STILL pay the schools?!?! What kind of response is that?
