Pompeii was only 5 miles from Mount Vesuvius which means it was probably a minute from eruption to the time the whole city was enveloped but people would’ve died from the air being so hot, pressure, and the toxic gases so it was most likely within seconds. #facts #historyfacts #DidYouKnow

In Herculanaeum on another side of the mountain from Pompeii, they got a lahar: a very fast moving flood of red hot mud. I visited both, and the different ways they were preserved were fascinating.

I watched Pompeii on Netflix the other day and it tripped me out bc it started out as a gladiator movie then next thing you know ppl are running for their lives and it’s a natural disaster movie.
