@history.5j2: The Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus), was a carnivorous marsupial native to Tasmania, Australia, and New Guinea. Despite its nickname, it resembled a dog or wolf more than a tiger, with a slender body, pointed snout, and distinctive dark stripes across its back and tail. About the size of a large dog, the thylacine hunted small to medium animals. It was driven to extinction by hunting, habitat destruction, and competition with introduced species, with the last known individual dying in captivity in 1936. It died due to human negligence. Forgotten and left to die to the elements and the cold. Its keeper forgot to take it back inside.
