Best and Worst Redemptions I made this year as someone who is new to the world of points and miles. I’m a travel blogger and mom of 4, and recently started learning more about how to redeem credit card points and miles for travel. I occasionally get sponsored trips, but most of our trips I pay for myself. I like the freedom and the ability to give unbiased reviews. Redeeming credit card points helps us afford to travel more often so I can have more content to share for my business! Let me share what I did in year 1: 1. Booked 3 nights in a 2-bedroom suite at the Margaritaville Key West. We really enjoyed the stay, but the problem was that we booked through the Chase portal. 98,000 points could have gone a LOT further. The issue was that we wanted to go somewhere warm for spring break. Flights were SO expensive this year, but we finally found affordable(ish) flights on Southwest to Fort Lauderdale. By the time we booked the flights in November, hotels and airbnbs had little availability and were VERY expensive. We did this out of necessity because we didn’t book far enough in advance. Lesson learned! 2. Booked 2 nights at Hyatt Regency in La Jolla for 12,000 points/night and 2 nights at Hyatt Palm Springs for 15,000 points/night. I took my son to LEGOLAND California for his birthday and wanted to get some Southern California content for the blog. For these I transferred Chase points to Hyatt. Good use of points, no regrets. 3. My favorite redemption was signing up for the United Explorer Card and booking 2 roundtrip tickets from Chicago to Quito, Ecuador for 84,000 points for our kid-free anniversary trip. Using the United Excursionist Perk we added a free stopover in Salento, Colombia. Plus we got to use the United Club lounge and got TSA Recheck for free! I’m learning as I go, and have some fun redemptions in mind for next year! #travelwithkids #travelbucketlist #MomsofTikTok #familyvacations #millennialmom
