Love this! On my fourth listen, note for memory: 1. Ad hominem (wrong person to argue) 2. Strawman fallacy (misrep position, apply hyperbole) 3. Appeal to authority 4. False dilemma (polarise issue)

It’s a shame most debates/ arguments are more about theatrics that logic

As someone who chronically overthinks, the slippery slope fallacy might not be the worst thing in the world seeing how a lot of decisions cause ripple effects that make you think if they were worth it

Bear in mind, these are informal fallacies. If someone commits these fallacies, their argument may still be valid and logically coherent (conclusion follows from the premises)

I just realised I didn’t introduce no 2 which is the ‘strawman’ fallacy that starts at ‘this is when you completely misrepresent someone’s idea’

Tbh I’ve been guilty of using the slippery slope fallacy but that’s only because of patterns in the past. Is it possible to argue a ‘slippery slope’ argument logically?

This is so true. I realise years ago that society runs on manipulation therefore many of us have that imbedded within us without realising.

For the slippery slope example, is that not just precedent? You don’t need to present evidence but if one person walks a path and everyone see it, soon enough someone else will.

I've gone full circle on this and I think logical fallacies are actually a legit way to debate, and often bring up the real issues lurking behind surface level questioning
