I would never put peel and stick tile directly on a floor ever again, I was scraping goo off with a razor for months. I wish I knew about the painters tape lol.

For drywall I’d put some sort of paper in between then all you need to do is rip the paper off

put the tiles off the grout like don't line up exactly like the original floor it will be less likely to Crack or noticeable if they sink in those spots
