There are many reasons to why these noses are gone, erosion is definitely one but there are other reasons that people dont know. The next successors would usually chop the noses as a symbolic gesture that the past ruler ‘fell off’ and the current ruler is in power, it removes their presence and undermine their authority. other reasons include ancient egyptians believing that the spirits of these statues lay in them and destroying the noses would make them lose their ability to breathe and die.
