Luckily, we were on our way to the vet when we rescued these two girls because they definitely needed help🩺🐾 The older gal who we estimate is about 7-8 years old and 16.5 lbs, her name came to us immediately… Twinkie😂🫶🏼 little girl’s name is still in the works and we believe she is about 2 years old and currently weighs 10 lbs! We immediately ran bloodwork on both of them🩸 Unfortunately, they both tested positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasma, two tick-borne infections commonly seen in dogs living in these conditions. Twinkie’s biggest concern is a low platelet count, while the little one is anemic after being so severely depleted. The good news is that neither showed signs of major organ damage which gives us a lot hope that they will both make beautifully full recoveries with a bit of time and a lot of love! The vet suggested we leave the little one overnight on IV fluids so they could monitor her closely… so that’s exactly what we did. Not because she was on the verge of organ failure or anything, it was because she was simply depleted. Her little body had almost nothing left in reserve, and with severe malnutrition, dehydration, and thousands of ticks, that combination can quickly push a fragile dog into critical condition and we didn’t want to risk it! These girls are absolute love bugs! Every chance they get, they tuck themselves right into our arms and melt into us like they’ve been waiting their whole lives for someone to hold them🥹 we can’t wait for you to fall in love with them as much as we have! They’re getting lots of good food, plenty of rest, all the medical care they need… and tons of love💕 they are the perfect addition to our pack🐾
