Arms are often the first muscle group to fall victim to ego lifting, especially biceps💪🏽💯 Heavy bicep curls aren’t necessarily effective. If you’re swinging the weight up or pushing with your legs, you’re taking a significant portion of the resistance and time under tension away from your biceps. Another way of ‘cheating’ I often see is not doing complete reps - stopping the curl before the arms are fully extended(as I’m doing in the video above). This again will probably allow you to lift more, but results in less arm gains as you don’t get the full range of motion and ideal time under tension. This is different from intentional partial reps which when used right can be effective. Using a bit of momentum for a challenging weight is not a problem, but when it gets to the point where your biceps are no longer doing a big majority of the work, you should consider lowering the weight. Doing cable curls can help eliminate the use of momentum. Exercises where your back is rested against a bench, wall or other fixed object, are also great for isolating the work done to the biceps.
