It also costs $100 odd dollars to see a decent doctor - we cannot afford it

I’m a nurse, I knew I was septic waiting in the Emergency room. Oedema and Nerve pain also. 🤷🏻♀️waited over 8 hours. I had to save the time not going to the GP.

It’s not just western Sydney it’s Australia wide access to GP can take months. No other option but to go to hospital and wait.

I’m confused in the sense that all the taxes that get paid throughout Australia by everyday Australians where is it going? I just not being spent correctly in the right mannerisms. This should not be.

Primary and GP care should be brought -into- hospitals. $102 (and rising annually) is BECAUSE it’s a private, cottage industry.. with a single payer. Worst of both worlds!

Lmao she’s a GP that’s why she’s asking more money, u don’t need 100$ to say go take Panadol. The issue is, GPs close at 5 like any other business. We need 24/7 care at GPs.

People don’t prioritise their own health. It’s not the GPs responsibility to subsidise their healthcare by bulk billing and taking a pay cut. Increase the rebates. Value primary care.

waiting for rustedons to chime in that the ALP has saved medicare with it's randomly placed health centres and discount vouchers for pensioners. how many times do we have to say, restore medicare and fix the GP rebate. stop giving us weird stuff we didn't ask for and that isn't universal healthcare.

Argh, we have to stop calling Cat 3/4/5 “GP”. Non urgent conditions sometimes need a bed to be treated. Triage is for “how quick”, not “who and where”. Don’t use that data to assess GP vs ED need.

👏 👏 👏 The government should increase the rebate and stop overspending on unnecessary things. It’ll end up costing them more when more people rock up to ED.

Word. Paying for GP for when it was bulk billed before, was what spured this failure in primary care. Govt made this change and this is the failure and consequence for people going straight to ED after tolerating their pain/discomfort for weeks.

Low income earners aren’t able to take two weeks off work due to illness and wait for a medical appointment they’re unable to pay for. The system is broken.

Why are we speaking to these people as if we fear them ? We pay money for our public services, they take it, and don’t spend it on our public services and people die. Not the politicians. Why ?

It’s also a consequence of poor health literacy. People arent being taught xyz can be managed at home or by a visit to the pharmacist. So they present to ED for it. It’s also a consequence because gp’s are not bulk billed anymore, the ED is free. Both these gaps need to be addressed too.

Hear hear! 💗 Restore Medicare to the universal healthcare system - funded by our taxes - that it is supposed to be and used to be. Politicians have failed one of the best systems we had in this country.

My issue isn’t paying for my GP (sucks but have to re getting scripts I’m on for life filled - I just do a phone appointment) but trying to see her when I have an urgent need, the earliest I could book in would be 2 weeks, as he said. When I was bitten by a white tail (3 times) I literally had to wait weeks (as it wasn’t an emergency- I dealt with the nausea, chills and temperature) until I could see her.
