Bangkok, Thailand - Six people have been found dead at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel in Bangkok. The deceased—three men and three women—all of Vietnamese descent, were discovered together in a single room despite having checked into separate rooms. Authorities are investigating the possibility of poisoning after traces of cyanide were found in their teacups. The grim discovery was made around 5:30 PM local time when hotel staff noticed the guests had failed to check out. It was the cleaning staff, entering the room to perform their routine duties, who stumbled upon the bodies. The room was locked from the inside, and there were no signs of struggle or blood. A forensic doctor assigned to the case noted, "The mouths and nails of all the bodies had turned purple, indicating a lack of air as a possible cause of death." This, he explained, likely points towards cyanide poisoning. When cyanide is ingested, it cuts off the oxygen supply to the body's organs, gradually causing organ failure and ultimately leading to death. Investigators have tentatively concluded that this was a murder-suicide, with one individual among the dead responsible for the act. Interviews with relatives revealed a motive rooted in a financial dispute over a failed investment. Chong Sherine, one of the deceased who held a US passport, is suspected of orchestrating the poisoning. According to Thai news reports, she had convinced members of the group to invest in building a hospital in Japan, a venture that ultimately resulted in a loss of 10 million baht, or approximately 278,000 US dollars. It is highly likely that, afraid to admit the financial losses to the group, she planned the murders and then killed herself. #learningisfun
