But did you know the first person to give another person a gift wasn't Christian
Same goes for drinking water and we shouldn't breathe oxygen just to be safe

In the Netherlands, lovers would gift each other gingerbread men and women around St Nicholas Day. No longer applies to lovers, but these speculaaspoppen are still a big part of St.Nicholas

Having lived in Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, I learned the origins of the Christmas tree from a family that has recorded their family "tree" since 1480.

Oh! I have a fun fact! That painting of Odin is from the cover of the D&D book Legends and Lore! Done by a legend of fantasy and D&D art, Jeff Easley 😁

I love that you pointed out the fact that people converted and wanted to keep some of their traditions, I have been saying this for years. Yes sometimes it was stolen but not always.

Hi Dan, i believe the association of Odin with the Wild Hunt is mostly a 19th Century tradition originating with Jacob Grimm, conflating references. Ronald Hutton has a great OA article about it

In Poland we had the "podłaźniczka" or "Diduch", it was the top of a pine tree hung upside down in home and decorated with fruit, nuts and hay. It's a pagan tradition from before the 15th century 😏

I try to gauge how much silliness the stitched video is going to say by analyzing Dan's facial expression before the "Alright, let's see it."

Here in Belgium, gingerbread is associated with Sinterklaas. And then we have them all winter. Not really pagean, just great with a hot drink😂

Great video as usual. Do you have any plays/films that you think are great adaptations of the Bible? Do you have any adaptation of the Nativity story that is a favorite?

They also brought evergreens indoors to make things smell better during a time when windows were kept closed and heat came from wood that you had to chop yourself.

Nr 4. Could very well be connected to the Dutch st nic tradition of leaving a shoe by the fireplace with a carrot for the horse. Modern day if no fireplace is in the house you use the front door
