Purple Trouble is not your typical fruity musk, and that’s exactly what makes it interesting. The newest fragrance from Juliette Has a Gun opens with juicy wild blackberry and a very realistic red chili pepper note. On my skin, the first 15 minutes are spicy, green and herbaceous, with an almost damp, freshly picked quality. It’s unexpected, but definitely memorable. The dry down is where I really start to love it. The sharper opening softens into beautiful clean musks and smooth Ambroxan, while the blackberry leaves behind a subtle juicy sweetness. It feels modern, polished and much more wearable as it settles into the skin. I still wouldn’t call this a safe blind buy because that opening is so distinctive, but I love that the brand took a chance and created something I genuinely haven’t smelled before. I need more time with it, but the dry down has me wanting to keep wearing it.
