my vet says 40 and wet is much worse on them than a dry COLD day. I always put a rain sheet if I even think it will rain, but some days it literally comes out of the blue. Accidents happen!

Anytime it rains during the winter I check my horses at night. So far they have been fine all winter. But they each have a light weight and heavy weight blanket

Cold rain is the WORST! Learned it the hard way. Get her dried off and warm. She’ll be ok. ❤️

My mare does this as well. I have to cover her until she starts to grow winter hair.

Even in FL we get a few nights a year of this. My horse hates the barn so I’m always on shiver watch when it’s extra cold and def blanket if it’s rainy and cold. Mostly he’s au natural though!

i mean have u seen horses whose never been blanketed, the natural furry fuzz, and they do just fine

I think about mine daily but he’s a wooly mammoth so the most I’ve been doing is just a rain sheet. If you can horse blowers come in really handy when there soaked

I was so happy when my mare grew in a thicker coat her second winter here. It would snow and it would just sit on top of her fur ☺️totally insulated

Need to thatch horses if they're wet and cold and pop a juke rug over the top to dry them and warm them up.
