If this were sc or fl Id say run cause a sink hole is about to pop up. Usually you get no warning but a big bubble then boom a whole house is gone

It’s funny how I instantly recognized this, I’m from Coos Bay and have been going here my whole life, since before this was even a day use area, when we used to have to park on the road and hike all the way around the lake and the cabin was still there.

If that’s on an earthen dam, especially on the downstream side, that may be an indicator of water infiltration under the dam. Not good but not a level 10 emergency unless there’s tons of fountains.

I share your fascination. The geology/landscape wouldn't suggest a spring, as there is quite a drop and low lying water. Like you say, too far from utilities? I await further investigation 😁

I grew up with Artesian wells. drank from them in the 16 acres of woods on our property. it's just a spring. no volcanos involved
