with someone with autism, I do not show emotions or reactions when receiving gifts, deep down I almost blew up with joy when my mom gave me a plushie of my family character for christmas!

As an autistic child I was always really bad at expressing emotions when unwrapping gifts and it made me feel bad because I didn’t want my mom to think I don’t like the gifts

As someone with autism, I don't give big reactions, but i am always appreciative! I know you don't mean it like that, you're just happy about his bigger reaction, but this is just a reminder :)

Same I just have to act or remember to vocalize something. I’d say it’s more of an internal excitement, or my mind thinks in pictures so my imagination can just take hold.

My 15 yo just started having reactions and thoughts on his gifts. I honestly credit it to his speech therapy. They teach them social interactions and how to carry group conversations it’s so nice!

autistic here; we usually struggle very very hard with showing our gratitudes for gifts. But deep down we’re doing cart wheels in our heads!!! just a friendly fyi :-)
