@greengoldandblues: When I first met him, I was halfway through riding the Continental Divide and was probably the happiest and most confident I’d been in my life; both in my horsemanship and in myself. It took only a few months of being with him to go from riding the CDT solo to being too nervous to get on my horse; because him being angry at me for not trying wasn’t as bad as him being angry at me for trying and getting it ‘wrong’. For anyone that is in that same position now (it doesn’t have to be in the horse world, but just in life in general), please know that it isn’t your fault. That Phoenix era after them, where you start to remember what it feels like to smile again and when you no longer flinch when someone starts to speak to you will be one of the best feelings you’ll ever experience.
