Trade with him until he learns it’s not that you’re always taking. Give him cheese or something that’s high reward and as soon as he releases say “yes!” And give the thing he had back to him

I’ve heard that trading things for the items they are keeping helps. So like giving them things they want more than the thing they are keeping.

hi so, this behavior can be genetically driven (expected with the breed) but hand feeding is an amazing way to continue building a transactional bond, keep doing that! Same with trade based games (1)

if he's not biting your for it yet you can still teach him by just grabbing it, looking at it holding it amd then giving it back. it's always stopped it straight at the start for me since they know-

He’s a rottie he’s always going to be a bit possessive. But you can mitigate it. Trading, randomly walking by and giving him some treats, when he eats drop food by him, DONT put ur hand in the bowl

Whenever he has something he considers high value just drop a different high value treat by him so that he knows you approaching him doesn’t always equal you taking something from him!

From my experience, if it’s ONLY food, then it’s ok for you to have a boundary that ding just touch his food but make sure to have commands that if said will have the dog immediately drop it instead

he can definitely go without his shots. Socialization/training is way more important

TRADE TRADE TRADE! or if they see food as a high value item you can drop treats into the bowl as they're eating. the idea is to associate your hand as something that gives them something instead

if all else fails and you are unable to train it out of him only give him food/bones in a kennel to prevent attacks especially if kids or other animals are around

i trained my puppy out of this by laying her food out over a large area so she couldn't eat as fast. I started off by walking by her adding a high value treat everytime I walked by. pt.1

I don’t do gentle when it comes to this stuff. From puppy to adult I take whatever I want from them whenever. If they can’t handle that than it’s going to be dangerous to have them around children.

Hi is this a Rottie? I have one. I hand fed him a lot. For me and it may be unpopular opinion but worked for me, I also kept petting my dog while he ate. 🧍🏼♀️if he was really guarding I “traded” often. We also balanced it with discipline (time out time).

Some breeds are just genetically prone to this behavior, it is standard. You usually can’t fully stop it in these cases, but you can build a sort of “trust” with your dog to handle its resources to- 1

(As long as there isn’t growling, teeth showing, hair standing up, etc.). My family pet my dog everywhere anytime she would eat. We would lift her ears, and put our hands in her bowl. And

I would hold my rotties treats, trade treats. If she still didn't listen I would tell her no, take it away for a few minutes then give it back.

Teaching my rottie leave it was super helpful! He learned that when he left it I wouldn’t take it but also he’d get rewarded something else along with keeping it

My corgi was a nightmare with resource guarding at this age-build trust with the pup by trading things for high value treats. Use “drop it” so they get used to the command when you offer the treat

Take that specific treat away! My dog was trained NEVER to resource guard, and one day we gave her a buffalo bone- she growled at my brothers and I every time we walked past- my mom took it away and n

I borrow things and give it back. I also don’t take it from his mouth- I wait until however long it takes for him to finally drop it. Then I pick it up, check it out, give it back.
