i often think about patients that have recently passed near the holidays and think, "they didn't get to see Christmas" or "I wonder how their family did on their first thanksgiving without them"

i hope all my nurses know I survived. I survived the ventilator and the icu twice in 11 days. I survived my 7 hour surgery. I survived the aortic dissection surgery 11 days after I have my heart valve repaired. I survived it all but some don't know that. my heart failure receptionist has watched me survive over the last year. I'll still never forget telling her "I'll see you next year!" only to walk downstairs and get a call for a emergency echo which lead to my dissection surgery... she was watching my chart when it came through for the emergency surgery 💔
