Any pilots in here care to explain? Why would an aircraft land with malfunctioning landing gear? Don’t they let it circle around in the air til they figure out what’s what?

Aircraft Mechanic here: they said a bird strike caused engine failure, but even with no engines or hydro power, the landing gear can still extend and lock. Also, flaps weren't used to slow down, why?

I think the generations of pilots and mechanics skilled by the experience and prior military training are all retired or gone. The skill and attention to detail is gone. It’s just a job now.

not an expert, but it did seem to be coming in pretty hot for an emergency landing without any undercarriage. Would have thought they would try to land as slow as possible just above stall speed with every bit of flap extended.

I have so many questions about that wall/barricade. I'm no expert but it looks like it would have been a real bumpy ride and some minor injuries. But that wall it hits caused that explosion.
