It’s because there’s a city in Portugal called Lagos too and it is pronounced lah-gus in Portuguese. So technically, our pronunciation is wrong if we are going by the original language

I heard the name Lagos in Nigeria was named after the city Lagos in Portugal and it is pronounced that way in Portugal that’s probably why 🤷🏾♀️
