Danum (Water) by Salidummay DDK - The song danum is a Cordilleran song which speak on how water flow to the sea, just a people's resistance strongly flows, breaking down blockage until to gain the thing called victory. This song also connected to the River called Chico River. The Chico river flows from Mt. Data down to the provinces of Mountain Province and Kalinga in Luzon, Philippines. In History, During 1970s, the Philippine Government planned to build four dams along the Chico river, which is threatened to submerge the ancestral lands of those indigenous peoples of Kalinga and Bontoc. Because of this, it sparked the community resistance and united the people against the construction of the Chico dams with broad national and international support. People protested, went on strike, had a dialogue with the upliftment and took up arms. Because of what happened, Many leaders of the indigenous peoples were arrested and imprisoned. But there was a leader who intensified the struggle of the people there to stop the construction of the dam, when Kalinga Leader Macliing Dulag killed.
