We are not an anxious generation, we are a diagnosed generation.

Gen X would like a word. Um, just no one cared about our anxiety prior to that. I

Mental health became ‘safe’ to discuss…it’s always been an issue

The problem isn’t technology itself—it’s how increased accessibility has shifted expectations. Nowadays, being unreachable feels unacceptable, creating relentless pressure to always stay productive.

Yeah… I don’t know, dude. I was born in 86 and I had a very play-based childhood. I am CRAZY anxious. I think it was being raised by boomers.

As an older millennial, I’m so glad I went through childhood & high school without socail media

Mental health was an issue. We just didn’t talk about it.

We definitely had anxiousness in the ‘70s and ‘80s. We were just told to “relax” and get over it.

I would say the crushing pressure of growing poverty created by the ultra rich is a bigger problem than iPads

GenX had all of the same problems, they just looked a bit different. Our mental health was ignored, and we didn't have the internet to find answers to the things that troubled us.

I’ve been teaching for 28 years, the pressure of standardized testing has also taken a lot of joy out of the classroom. It’s an added layer to this crisis.

As many are pointing out, there are far too many confounding variables involved here to make such strong claims about smart phones (a narrative similar to that which Haidt has pushed for years)

"Something happened in the early 2010's" uh yea, Facebook and Instagram went from a timeline to an algorithmic feed. I said when it happened: "we won't know the the ramifications of having someone chose what you see on social media till it's too late". Well. it's too late.
