We have never done this in my family 😅 my dad passed away when we were kids and since mother’s 50s we give envelope to mother not opposite 😅

🥰we always get envelopes from older family... 🥰same..Indonesian culture also does the same thing..it's called sungkem..it's usually done on Eid al-Fitr..asking for forgiveness from older people..🥰🥰
