@drbotyler: Please note, this is my explanation as an allistic person who works with Autistic clients and has Austistic friends. This is part of the translation work I do with mixed Autistic-Allistic couples. #pathologicaldemandavoidance #pda #pdaautism #autism #autistic #adhd #audhd #autismawareness #autismacceptance #therapy #nuerodivergent #neurospicy #adultadhd #autisticadult #couples #couplestherapy
As an autistic person with PDA, this is the best description I’ve ever heard of my experience. Everything is an attempt to avoid dysregulation. Task switching is physically painful.

I'm autistic&adhd with PDA. The perceived demand can come externally or internally. Sometimes I want to do something, say read a book. But brain says Nope. I won't be able to focus on the words.

Okay, I'm waiting to hear ADHD. I'm pretty sure I am both. then what? I certainly know what you meant about a change in my routine being difficult! holy moly! it can really throw me off!

My autism needs routine but my adhd can’t keep one unless I work super hard to incorporate it into a routine

Finally someone who understands that PDA is not solely attributed to autism!

I would love to hear strategies we can use especially as a parent to help with this. It seems impossible to raise a pda child without causing dysregulation.

Eh. Jokes aside, I feel like this doesn’t take a few things into account… Pervasive drive for autonomy/fight flight, freeze response and also age and gestalt cognitive (and language) processing

Not Really The Platypus :
I have AuDHD and I suspect PDA. my experience of it comes more from disagreeing with the value of the norms that are forced on me.
"do this"
"why?"
"because I said so" (or bad reasons)
"no"
