Learning to swim breaststroke with your head above the water is probably the greatest key to feeling safe, relaxed, and in control in deep water. Yet, it's very rarely taught, and can often even be discouraged, blamed for being too slow, too inefficient, too hard to learn, or being bad for your posture. But that doesn't have to be true when it’s taught correctly. There are many different ways of learning head-up swimming, but the sequence I share here works really successfully, even with the most sensitive and nervous of swimmers. Always make sure someone is with you when learning this way of swimming, who can help and support you if needed. Many adult beginners can take time to develop balance and stability with their feet off the floor, (sometimes tipping forwards, backwards, sideways, or spinning around - I call it being a pinball!) I'll always be in the water with my swimmers whilst they’re learning in case they need support. Buoyancy aids can be extremely helpful for learning this way of swimming - especially for denser body types. They help take the pressure off and allow us to develop the correct technique in a relaxed way. I always use the Delphin adult swim discs with my learners (a noodle can sometimes be helpful too). You can find the discs here 👇 (affiliate link) https://amzn.to/4dMCgLM I'll of course be going in to more detail about head-up swimming in some future videos: arm technique, leg kick, rhythm and coordination development, breathing tactics whilst learning, core involvement, and bodytype challenges (too sinky, or hips too floaty!!!). Don't forget to sign up for my FOUNDATIONS course / newsletter for more info. Hope it helps, and wishing you summer of happy head-up swimming :) #learntoswim #watersafety #waterconfidence #swimming #adultswim
