However, the Ash’ari school and other groups that lean towards ta’wil (figurative interpretation) consider such a belief problematic and even label it as anthropomorphism or disbelief (kufr), as they argue that it implies a physical location for Allah, which they reject. In contrast, the athari position maintains that the fitrah is a God-given guide and that the natural understanding of Allah’s transcendence (uluw) is consistent with the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the consensus of the early scholars.
