Does Pat Conroy count as Southern Gothic? The characters are usually written as being "uniquely beautiful" but perhaps their repressed emotions would be considered grotesque.

I love Jesmyn Ward’s Sing, Unburied, Sing! Try checking out Yvonne Battle-Felton’s Remembered and her newest is I believe called Curdled Creek! Yvonne Battle-Felton is going to be a powerful voice!

Southern Gothic Dollhouse :
Beloved by Toni Morrison is a really important piece to include in a journey through the genre 🖤 She plays w many of the devices used by white SG authors, but from the Black perspective.
