My mum and dad used to do this and play the London fireworks from the year before so I could watch the “new year fireworks” 🥹

My parents would put me and sister to bed and then try to wake us up just before midnight to see if we wanted to get up to see in the New Year. Sometimes we did sometimes not but it was a big treat
