We moved from a downtown high rise to huge house in the burbs years ago because it felt like what we should do and we hated it. Sold that house, moved back to a high rise and never looked back.

having a young family in the city is great because there are also a lot of programs and activities for kids too. I grew up in the burbs and now can't move from the city bc I just love the atmosphere

You needed your realtor to give you better guidance. If you are always in DC, a townhome in Gaithersburg was not a wise choice. Shoulda looked at Arlington or Alexandria.
