Can you do the Pagan myths next? I'm so curious about your understanding of it.

re-framing myths across ages to meet our current morals is a fave topic of mine tbh it doesn't devalue the previous versions so much as gives us a lense into the society at the time

I once heard about a greek story that had a similar story but athena was punishing the man and not the woman (nothing with medusa and Poseidon) but i havent found any prove of that

I feel like so many misconceptions about Greek myths come from Ovid. I feel like that one Drake and Josh meme with him

I've also heard there's some variation on the Roman story where Athena (Idk her Roman name) actually did it as a means of trying to protect Medusa, however this may be a more recent version

Ovids stuff kind of feels like he was pulling a Wicked? taking an older story and making his own, in ways darker, version to make a political statement

We do have to remember that Ovid might have had access to literature and myths that we do not have anymore, that is the case with a lot of Ovids stories we don’t know if he made them up or had them from a source we do not have anymore

The main problem with how people view Greek mythology is that they only see certain versions of the myths when in reality they probably showed very little on what the people felt about the gods

Okay now I’m interested in your thoughts on the myth of Persephone and Hades. Cause I’ve seen a lot of different takes on them and how Demeter is treated in a lot of retellings.

Medusa was originally just a normal monster like the Hydra or Cerberus or Sphynx

Medusa was actually a daughter of Phorcys and Ceto! Guessing Typhon and Echidna is valid tho bc they were the parents of most monsters in Greek Mythology - including Cerberus!

I’ve come to realize over the past month or so that if a Greek myth has a woman acting surprisingly homicidal in a fit of jealousy or someone is thrown up into the sky and becomes a (1/2)

Ovid was the one that got kicked out of Rome because he told women how to pick up men at the Coliseum... right?

The one i found out about later on (after bothe the ovid one and the one you describe) was that athena tranforms her to prevent anyone else from violating her after Poseidon did. (Idk if it is recent)

If ppl wanted to use that version then they should refer Athena as Minerva since it’s the Roman version
