We built this rock garden over eight years ago, and creeping buttercups and daylilies took it over. We got it cleaned up and added three agapanthus, Ever Amethyst, Ever White, and Ever Sapphire. These gorgeous plants are drought-tolerant once established, and are also pest- and disease-resistant. These fantastic plants will bloom from spring through summer with a longer duration than traditional agapanthus, welcoming bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds! Their multiple spikes of deep purple, violet-blue, and vibrant white flowers make lovely cut flowers as well! We grow agapanthus in containers, in-ground, and in a raised bed. 💜 Ever Amethyst was recently designated by UC Davis as a low-water perennial compared to conventional agapanthus, which requires moderate watering. It’s hardy to USDA zones 8-11 and performs well in full sun to part shade in hotter climates. Ever Amethyst matures around 24-30” tall and 12-18” wide. 💙 Ever Sapphire agapanthus is semi-dwarf, reaching 20-24” tall and 12-18” wide and hardy to zones 8-11. Because of its clumping habit, it won’t take up too much space in the garden, but it’s always advisable to divide perennials every few years to prevent overcrowding. 🤍 Ever White Agapanthus is semi-dwarf, growing to 18-20” tall and 12-18” wide, and is hardy to zones 8-11. Ever White is fast-growing and drought-tolerant and would be great planted en masse, as a border or in containers. Blooms from spring through summer.
