My favorite for my oldest is to enter a complain-off and we take turns venting about all the things we’re mad about. She needs to see that I understand emotionally what she’s going through.

it's also teaching a healthy outlet for anger/frustration/anxiety so he doesn't let it bottle up

I think this is why tantrums are easier for me than my husband. I GET why they’re freaking out. It’s not logical but ANXIETY ISN’T LOGICAL.

My kids are frequent fliers to the nurses office for ice packs because ice packs were my go to when they were freaking out. Works about 80% of the time

This is amazing! My favorite tantrum advice was to say something wrong because they’ll want to correct you.

we have been counting to 10 (in a super calm way) since my girl was 18 months. she'll be two tomorrow and will just randomly count to 10. I wonder now if she counts to calm herself down. 🥺

Not me at 33 trying to figure out how I should treat my anxiety 👀 I assume seclusion and chocolate aren’t the answer 😅

But what do you do when you’re done throwing and your 2.5 yr old breaks down because he wants to keep doing it ?

Early educator here. I have a language delayed classroom and sometimes I take my kids outside to scream it out. Giving them outlets to feel their feelings truly helps regulation skills

My son helps me put ice cubes in my cup. So he gets to do like 8 ice cubes since they’re kinda small. So the ice calms him down and completely distracts him from what he was mad about. Works like 75%

I allowed her to throw fits. In her room. She had her big feelings in there & when she was ready to talk, she could come find me & we’d work it out. To this day(16) she goes to her room & then to me.

I had a breakthrough with a kid who was known for historic tantrums bc I asked her "do you know how to/need help calming down?" instead of just telling her "calm down"

If my toddler is having a meltdown before bed, I hold her up next to the ceiling fan (caged, no risk of her grabbing it) and I say COOLING DOWN THE BABY and she is so pleased by this, thank god hahaha

I have an old juice bottle (like 1/2 gal) that we call the frustration bottle. kick it, throw it on the ground (and on the ground only), hit it with a stick and fill it up with all your frustration. def gonna try the ice cube thing too
