FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: PSAFLIVE response to @BBCAfrica Inaccurate reporting- In the documentary “Fear and Loathing in South Africa” there is video footage that is wrongly credited to PSAFLIVE that appears twice in the documentary. PSAFLIVE is wrongly cited as the source using a caption as well as in the voice over by reporter @AyandaCharlie_ . The caption incorrectly states that the video was sourced from the PSAFLIVE X (formerly known as Twitter) page. Charlie also states that the video is from a “[…] pro Dudula website”. This is factually inaccurate. The videotape in question is not from PSAFLIVE. PSAFLIVE content can be accessed via the PSAFLIVE website and the following social media platforms; X,YouTube, Facebook and TikTok. The video in question did not appear on any one of the aforementioned platformstherefore PSAFLIVE should not have been cited as the source of the video. @NickBfilms requested to use the two videos posted by PSAFLIVE on X on the 7th of June 2023 however PSAFLIVE declined. The video depicting the community of Jabulani posted on PSAFLIVE on X is not the same video that was used in the documentary depicting similar scenes. We as PSAFLIVE cannot confirm without a shadow of doubt that the two videos were taken on the same day and that they are of the exact same incident. As PSAFLIVE did not generate that video content and we do not know the community members or organisations in those two video recordings. It is our understanding that after PSAFLIVE did not give Blackmore permission to use the video of the incident at Jabulani Mall he decided to source a similar video from elsewhere and wrongly credit PSAFLIVE as the source. That is highly inappropriate and unethical as it goes against the values, ethics and codes of journalism. Blackmore sought to create a non-existent link between the video footage in the documentary, PSAFLIVE and #OperationDudula. This is a gross misrepresentation of facts.
