I think that's more of a correlation ≠ causation thing. It's not that our depression and anxiety made us grow a big amygdala, it's that having a big amygdala/empathy causes the depression/anxiety

I donated a kidney to a stranger (went through the pair program, kicked off a chain of 7 🙌). For me, it wasn't empathy, it was resignation.

...isn't it interesting that it also controls the fight/flight response in response to fear? (i thinkni have this right) so.. more trauma = more empathy, whi h actually makes sense.

PS - that study on nondirected living donors found that people with big amygdalas perceive fearful faces more accurately than avg ppl but have same level perception for all other emotions

i’ve also heard people make connections between autism and pmdd with the amygdala, but it’s all speculation cause there’s such little research
