Sand is 100 times better, I find that the chickens are happier and healthier. But beware cleaning it is a choreeee. But it should be fun especially watching them go to clean sand again!

When we laid sand in our coop, our chickens acted like the floor was lava and subsequently refused to go into the coop for days. They like it now, but it was a rough start.

If you put down Red Devil water proofer liquid like 2 coats it will save you from having any moisture issues on that underlayment

Go to Lowe’s and buy a roll of synthetic felt it’ll help keep the moisture from soaking into the plywood

How cold is your climate? I live in Saskatchewan Canada that in winter can get to -40 c. I wanted to put sand but worried for it being too cold and needing straw bedding.

Well, I just wanted to new a thing, because every time my chicken's nest is so dirty, but I looked up sand. Chicken coop, and it looks so good.
