Did you use a wallpaper primer? (Not a paint primer) it should stick better if you prime the wall. But traditional wallpaper is better.

you need to make sure the paint underneath is prepared. you can use a vinal paint or a satin paint. if you don't want to paint you can use a PVA wash. I had this happen. spray adhesive worked well

If you have a high sheen and / or textured walls,this will happen. It won’t adhere. Try framing the seams with painters tape, Then glue to the painters tape. It saves on damage &headache later.
