They're lying if they say it's for insurance or whatever. It goes into the exact same pile of money as everything that's not sales tax. I.e. PROFIT.

you're spot on. I've been on both sides of this! customers in a tipping culture are already paying the bulk of waitstaff wages. it's gone too far! I bet the servers aren't allowed to talk about it.

I’ve had places that I put to go and pick it up and they add tip or more tip than what I gave too. We are just getting scammed left and right.

I work at a place that does a 2% service charge for the kitchen workers. And they do in fact get it on their paychecks. But I'm sure there are some places that don't.

I don’t understand US restaurants polices. They charge 15-20 a dish… for what ? If they don’t use the money for their employees? I know in Canada employees have salaries and tips. (Minimum salary)
