Exactly the problem with America. All about productivity and growth, not safety, life expectancy, worker's rights, education, etc. - all of which are well worth the economic trade off.

GDP per capita doesn't completely represent the prosperity of a population because it matters also how much wealth Is distributed as measured by the GINI coefficient which is 0.35 in UK (good)...

Look at the median not the average: US is 107k median wealth, whereas the UK is 151k median wealth, and they have free healthcare.

Money can't buy class! In the UK we have health care, safety, good education. It's a good trade off!

I lived in California for 13 years. Apart from petrol. I was surprised how cheap it iss in the UK. Food is cheaper. Plus the quality. No chemicals like US food. Then there is the Health Service. Pay for your insurance, but it does not cover it all. Then there is out of pocket. $2,000-$3,000 for an ambulance. I knew people that went with out medical care. And so many Bipolar cases and ADD.
