Thermal shock is NOT the culprit. The Wiliam Sonoma bowl is tempered glass. Which needs about 300-400F° rapid change in temperature to explode. This was due to a weak edge in the tempering process.

sometimes glass or other natural items can shatter if it catches a spell aimed at you.

tempered glass, you held it on its weak spot. it would break because of it. Im sure it's tempered glass

there has been tension in the glass and when you start to work it grows too much and bang. It can hapen also when you take glass off from dishwasher.

This could be if the bowl was straight out of of the dishwasher and avocado was put in it which is cold idk how to explain it
