@safiasofly: I am starting to realize that those in the Seattle fashion scene don’t know me. I am new to this scene but I am not new to fashion. My passion for fashion started on my 9th birthday courtesy of a gifted Passion for Fashion Bratz Runway Set and remains a focal part of who I am. However, my intersectional identity of being a Somali, Muslim, Black Woman in America has made missioning social impact not just a desire but a necessity of survival. And hence the work I do both career wise and personally outside of these apps reflects that. I think it is time my social media reflects that too. I don’t get paid from fashion, I’m just that girl. My tiktok family knows me as someone who speaks loudly in the face of injustice. My Instagram fam is grossly mistaken. I get paid from teaching equity, diversity, and inclusion. My last name is Malin (somali: macaalin) and that directly translates to teacher. This is my purpose and I have always walked in it. Don’t confuse my hobbies with my values. I will not conform my morals to get a seat at a table that is built on a power structure of inequity. I don’t want a seat at your table; I have always created my own.
