On October 17th 2023, I posted a video on how to call your congressperson to demand a ceasefire. It was met with angry messages and in some cases, complete silence. There are people who have refused to speak to me since. This was not unexpected. Sometimes you have to walk into the fire because you could not live with yourself if you didn’t. Sometimes that right thing and the hard thing are the same thing. Since then, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been unalived by Isr*el and the United States. Through weapons and forced starvation and siege. I haven’t been performing much in the last few years because I’ve wanted to concentrate on using whatever platform I have to educate anyone that will listen on the harmful structures that oppress us, and how, from police brutality, to ICE raids, to the g*n*cide of Palestinians, these structures are linked. But I do realize that you can move people through art in ways that you often cannot with information. So I’m slowly making my way back to stages to share a message: that it is your responsibility to shape the narratives that will create our future. A different way is possible. Last week I got to perform in Chicago at @CAFE MUSTACHE with @dell_angela_ and it was truly wonderful, because they are wonderful, and because I knew before all else that they shared my values. This is how I find where and who I play with now. And that has been a blessing. I want you to know that if you have not yet spoken out against the g*n*cides in Palestine or Sudan or Congo, that you can. That you’re welcomed. You might not do it perfectly. That’s okay. And it might be hard, but it will be worth it. All my love, Trish
