i was able to just use it like that without rethreading. it is brand new and was checking as it did not start but someone did not instal correctly.

I’d assume you have a tapa din die set . I’d pull the head but a new head gasket and valve cover gasket and tap / clean the threads from the inside .

Why can’t you use the other tap ? I mean cut the thread with that tap from outside and in ? Because metal shavings will come into the engine ?

A thread insert is like $30 from the parts store with the tool and all. I had to do one last summer and it even came with 3 inserts to choose from.
