I’ve been trying to find any viral record for my great aunt but no luck. I have records for all her other siblings, she was born in 1937 and died in 1940 both (supposedly) in NC.

Check if the area's coroner-issued death certificates are stored separately. GGfr was a sudden death and finally found his with the coroner files.

Also try neighbouring counties where the bigger hospitals were situated, that worked for me with a death that I had been researching for months.
