I’m a nanny and I work for two families. They are both kind but only one is firm and let me tell you, it makes the WORLD of difference in behavior. The firmly raised child is happy AND respectful.

Yep. Be firm. Follow through with what you say. Get on their level. Explain what they did wrong and why they can’t do something. Both parents back each other up.

If I knew better back then I would have done better. I was firm not always kind. Too busy too stressed just too too much (single parenting very difficult). Grandchildren will benefit what I know now.

I’m very proud of the parent that I am, and the way my child is turning out because of it. Always firm, always kind. She knows to apologize when necessary after I give her time alone to think.

And sometimes your kid is gonna be upset, or cry, or be angry. You job is to help them cope with their emotions in a healthy way, don’t stifle their feelings bc ur afraid they’re gonna hate you.
