@beeraficionado: The industry got so popular that the market could no longer withstand the pace of openings, but boy what a run. Just like restaurants, when you have 9,500+ examples, there’s will be a churn of ones that aren’t prepared to compete without the hype that was there in the beginning half of the cycle. The undercapitalized, the weak brands, the low to average beer quality, the less than ideal spaces and locations, the inexperienced business operators, and beyond are all at risk. #craftbeer #brewery

It’s because their beers are not good.

It’s not complicated. Most people don’t like craft beer enough to pay $17 for a 4 pack. A lot of craft breweries got greedy and priced themselves out of the market.

The craft beer market became flooded (excuse the pun) with mediocre IPAs that all had way too much processed hops in them, it was like drinking water spiked with washing up liquid.

As a craft beer drinker, there are too many bad craft breweries. I only drink the best of the best. I don’t waste my time, money, calories, or beers drank on average beer.

You are def right. However, I got so sick of kids and dogs unattended at breweries that this was a large reason I don’t go

oversaturated market, overpriced in the market, people are drinking less overall

I feel like the generation who liked craft beer is now too old for it, and also too budget conscious now that they have families. And the younger generation doesn’t drink as much.

we hit the carrying capacity of the market and on top of that a lot of breweries that were successful early fell off due to not adapting to market needs

there were significantly more microbreweries than there were mcdonalds. it was always gonna crash

It’s not the only reason. But it surely doesn’t help.

as a former craft guy, for me it's 🍃. it's cheaper, a better buzz, and don't pack on pounds or feel bad next day. I'll still drink a craft over any other beer..I just choose differently at home

I blame too many IPAs. You can’t go to a brewery without 18 of the 20 beers being IPA. I don’t dislike them but they have oversaturated a niche market. Not everyone likes them, make other beers too.

It’s the same reason all those specialty cupcake bakeries are closed, too much supply not enough demand

isn't most of Gen Z eschewing alcohol consumption? I know they're drinking a lot less than millennials and older

Millennials are in their 30s and 40s now. Tuesday afternoon taproom visits aren't apart of their life anymore. The 2010s craft boom was largely driven by this generation

It's just not worth the money anymore. I can spend $7 on a 6 pack of Busch Light and get the same amount of drunk as I can spending $40 at a brewery and not have to drive home afterwards.

Meanwhile, as someone who cannot think of something less worth wasting money on than beer, I've been confused how taprooma ever came into existence and loath that they still are.

You mean to tell me that it's hard to see and understand market forces determining the supply of breweries and not things that I'm personally annoyed by? That doesn't sound right

Fewer people are drinking these days, the market was oversaturated, and many of them just weren’t good.

Have drinks for people who don’t like beer! My friends have picked one brewery over another to go to bc others don’t have any other options

I also wonder if it has anything to do with GLP1 shots and the like. Since starting those my drive and ability to drink has gone down about 90%
