The vagus nerve is one of the most important nerves in your body. It’s responsible for the communication and regulation of your brain many important organ functions e.g. heart rate, digestion, reflex actions (coughing, sneezing, swallowing, vomiting etc.). The vagus nerve is also the key part of your parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for calming you down in stressful or threatening situations and installs safety inside of you - calmness. Trauma can impact the function of the vagus nerve(s) in a negative way leading to possible problems ranging from anxiety, depression (aka survival mode) to chronic pain, autoimmune disease etc. Massaging specific pressure points (as shown in PART 1 of this Reel) can help stimulate and improve the function of the vagus nerve. Trauma healing is done with our whole body AND mind. We must activate and engage our body to heal holistically from trauma.
