Their entire identity is the roles they play. 🤯 Thank you for this. I’ve never heard it stated so clearly.

I think many millennials were neglected & the convenience of TV and internet raised us. We probably knew more about the world at an early age but no guidance or care

as I became older, I realized my parents never found out about themselves who they are or what they like, they were just in survival mode the whole time. they have no patience either

a lot of them was in awe of the skewed idea of parenthood instead of actual parenthood

My mother is not nurturing/does not have a lot of emotional range and then I remember that my grandma was 15/16 when she had her. She never had the chance 😩

I find my mom kinda struggling to discover herself now as a 60 year old, but she’s trying to, may be baby steps, but I’m glad she’s open to the thought of trying something new and thinking different

I agree but at what point does self awareness kick in? I didn’t go no contact with my mom because of my childhood. I went no contact because that behavior continued into my adulthood.

Some of it may come from the parents upbringing. Some older generation ppl grew up with “being seen and not heard”, not allowing to express or have emotions, etc.

my mama is a recovered emotionally immature parent. the moment she started to reflect on her childhood and her generational influences, she completely changed as a person. she got to be HERSELF!

I agree. I think it’s important for us to acknowledge that each generation dealt with some sort of trauma.

When I started going out into the world and having my own experiences outside of home, my mother still acted like I knew nothing, and still has a hard time accepting that I’m a whole adult with my own schedule and feelings. She expects things out of me she didn’t do for her own mother.

My mom went through her “self discovery” during my HS yrs and that impacted my life TREMENDOUSLY, it wasn’t until I was 27-28 that she apologized cause she realized how bad she had messed up—
