I always say Florida accent is a mix of all the southern and northern accents combined. It’s a melting pot accent.

I was born and raised in Central Florida. My family is actually from Puerto Rico. But some guy from England the other day told me I had a southern accent, even though I’ve never thought I’ve had a southern accent.

Lived in St. Pete where there usually isn’t an accent…HOWEVER, my family does kinda have an accent mostly because black folks in Florida do a little accent. Like the way I said oil sounded southern.

even though your english is really neutral, you can tell you are from florida from the slight influence from FL english. Specifically the pen/pin merger when you pronounce depend (dip-inding) and accents (acc-ints)

Ohio is weird too. if you're in Southern Ohio, you may have a bit of a southern twang. North Western Ohio and you'll sound more like Michigan, Wisconsin, etc. Central Ohioans like me, sound like you😊

7th generation Florida west coast here! We are the oak tree, orange groves, swimming in lakes & checking for alligators & water moccasins before running off the dock kind of Floridians. Pretty rural roots here but none of us have southern accents either. 💗
